Consider it a lesson learned

Getting hurt really bites! I'm not terribly hurt just enough to make it hard to want to go to the gym. The other night I hurt my shoulder some how. I don't even know how I did it. All I know is that it hurt so bad I couldn't raise my Rt arm or turn my head. Three days later I still feel it slightly, but I missed wking out yesterday b/c of it. So Thursday morning when I go to the spinning class again I will have to really pay attention to not hurt it and make sure I take care of myself after.

The other problem I have come across is, I can no longer have chocolate. I ate it on Sunday, a beautiful brownie topped with vanilla ice cream goodness. OH it tasted SO good! Later, about an hr, I started to get sores on the inside of my mouth and then on Monday I had an IBS attack. I seem to get IBS attacks when my body doesn't like what I put into it. It hurts and wipes me out. So, even though the brownie tasted good, it's not worth the pain after.

Another goal reached

In the gym there is one piece of Cardio that used to make me nauseous to think about. It was the stair climber. A few months ago Ashley asked me to get on it and I hated every moment I was on that thing. It was loud and vibrated enough to make me nervous.

One day I met a woman whose goal was to get me on that machine again. She didn't even really know me and yet she felt personally responsible for getting me back on it. I saw her every day until I left for AZ and I then I saw her a few times after I got back and each time she would ask me if I had tried it again. So, because I got tired of telling her no to something that can only really benefit me I gave in. Clint bought me a I-Shuffle for Christmas so I turn that on and then I don't hear the loudness of the machine.

I got on it and you know, I actually really like it now. It has taken me a few times on it, but I get a great wkout in the legs and butt. So much so that I actually do it all the time now. My wkout is evolving and hopefully it shows in the measurements I'll be taking soon.

Spin Class Anyone?

I did it! On Thursday I started my first Spinning class. It's always been a secret goal of mine to get in shape enough to feel like I can do a class. I've been riding the regular bike located upstairs in the gym now since Aug. Now that I have plateaued with my weight I decided ready or not here I come. The instructor was fantastic, although I wouldn't know the difference from one to another, but seriously she was great. Before the class started she walked me though all the things I needed to know. Like this bike is different than anything you've ever ridden before, AKA: you have to pedal the entire time there is no coasting, you stop the bike stops. She also told me that most people don't stay the whole time their first time. She told me to have fun and just enjoy the class, b/c the first few times are really just to see if this fits you.

So, what happened?

I LOVED IT!!!

I stayed the whole time and felt like I got an amazing wkout in. I also liked that it's the perfect thing to cross-train for the half that I am preparing for.

Then night came and guess what...I was so sore I could barely walk. Truly a tough wkout that has taken me two days to recover from. This has been a great learning experience for me though. Now I know what to expect and how to take care of myself afterwards. I stretched, but now I know I need to do more stretching than I originally thought. I also now know that the day I do spinning I really need to get to bed early, as in before 10 pm so my body can get some good recover time in. The next thing I figured out is that I need extra protein those days so help in muscle recovery.

The next class in on Tuesday and that one has a different instructor in it, so it'll be interesting to compare them. SO, until then, happy exercising!

A GREAT Day!

Today was a great day! I started out eating a healthy breakfast and then at the gym Ashley wked me pretty hard. She had me do some new things that were hard to do at first and then I started to get the hang of it. I'm sure next time we do it, it won't take me so long to figure out what she wants me to do. After wking out with her I got on the bike, increased my intensity and biked 7.75 miles. Then I got on the treadmill and walked/ran 4.5 miles. I increased my speed and am now running a 12 min mile. Last year at this time I was running a 14:30 min mile. I feel really good and sore.

I survived

I survived my first week back at the gym. I didn't make it everyday, but I did do something each day. Today felt SO good. It just felt good to be back in the swing of things. Eating is getting back to normal and now I just have to make it through Kaily and Conner's birthday and Valentines day. They seem to pile on the candy for Kaily at school. It's also the time of year when Kaily and I make sugar cookies to take to family and friends. She loves to help me with that and looks forward to it. It wouldn't be so hard if the cookies didn't taste so dang good. OH WELL!

So this week looks promising. Clint's new schedule for school is different than last semester so I have had to figure out new times to do things. My Mon & Wed is the same, but all the other days are a bit of a challenge. Nothing like your husband being in school to help you change up your workout. I think I'll try the 5 am thing again and see how that goes. The weather in UT has been ok, but the inversion is going to kill me if I try to do anything outside. Oh how I long for the nice springtime.

FYI, Lost another 2 lbs from last week. I'm SO happy to be back!

update on measurements

So if you scroll down to the bottom you will see new measurements for me. I still managed to loose weight between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but it wasn't the amount I wanted to loose, but I'll take it and do better this next month. Somehow I managed to loose 2 inches off my thighs, don't know how that happened, must be all the running I'm doing. I thought those pants were fitting a bit big in the leg these days. I still managed to loose 1 inch off of my waist and hips, which is amazing. My arms came out loosing the least, I expected that though. I hurt them shoveling snow so I couldn't work them as hard as I normally would. All in all, not a bad start to the New Year.

Clint and I signed up the SLC Half-marathon instead of the Ogden one. The Ogden one was sold out by the time I got back to it. That is one of our resolutions, what's yours?

Restart button please?

It's Jan 4th, the first Monday back to the gym and back to the diet. Truth is I SHOULD have kept to the diet all along, but that was more difficult than I thought it would be. While in AZ I had a wkout designed for me by Ashley, but I ran 4 miles two days and then it got crazy busy and super crowded. I ate too much fast food and really by the time we actually arrived in AZ my stomach hurt so bad I didn't want to eat. My body rebelled against me and yelled at me for treating it so badly. I REALLY want to do a cleanse, but I don't know of a good one yet.

I'm supposed to weigh-in today. I'm NOT excited about it. I know I've lost weight, but that's not why, I really feel guilty for how I was during Christmas. The lack of exercise is taking it's toll on me and I can feel it in my moods. Today will be a good day. Starting over can be a hard thing, but in the end it can be rewarding. In this case it WILL be a great restart. Clint and I have thrown out all the candy in the house and taken his wk challenge to replace sugar snacks with fruit. 2010 will be a great year for me, I can feel it.
